Blue

I've stated it many times, The Great Smoky Mountains is our favorite U.S. National Park. This image is an example of why. If you wake up really, really early in the morning and head up Newfoundland Gap Road you can capture the blanketing fog. You should try underexposing up to 2 F-stops because your meter is trying to set your image at middle gray. This causes your images to be to light and you are left with something that doesn't quite pop.
As a side note, both Barry and I have tattoo's that were derived from this image.

Beautiful Blue Pit Viper

This little (extremely poisonous) sweetie was right next to my foot as I was putting out laundry. I was very lucky that I saw it in time to get out of the way! After we take some more shots this morning we are going to take it back in the jungle and let it go. It is officially a rainforest hog nosed pit viper. So beautiful.

Incense-d

This image is of smoke from an incense cone with a few different colored gels covering the light source. You just let the smoke rise, add the colored light and then flip the image a few times in photoshop. I really love these.

Slide, Baby Slide

You too can find this. After a 30 minute hike from a spectacular vista, high on the Western side of the Talamanca Mountains in Costa Rica. It's a naturally formed slide that leads the rider to a dip into a turquoise pool that is deeper than 10 feet. The water is crystal and the white-throated capuchins watch from high in the treetops. I know this for a fact because I was there yesterday and have a future invitation to return! Eeeeee (like a school-girl).

Word to your Mum

These colorful magenta mums were taken in Southeastern Indiana. The climate in the area lends itself to beautiful colors & many varieties of plants and flowers. The winter is normally just cold enough to provide mums and other perennials time to build back up their nutrient reserves.

Big Blue

This Blue Heron went fishing with us. We caught a few rainbow trout and filleted them on the spot. He was very cautious to go after the remains even after we headed towards the parking lot. It was almost as if he was being polite and wanted to make certain that we had left those parts for him.

At the end of the day

This lovely, relaxing sunset was captured in Cayo Costa state park on the Gulf Coast of Florida. This 2,500 acre park has 9 miles of undisturbed beach, plenty of Florida gators and a large pine forest. You can only get here by boat and camping is at a nominal charge.

Go Fly a Kite

This mime from Indiana worked a full time office job unhappily. He started painting himself up on weekends and walking around local festivals free of charge. He loved to entertain. At one festival, a man asked him if he would perform at a birthday party. He did the party and decided that this profession made him happy. He never went back to office work.

Eastern Tennessee Stream

This serene little stream flows to the left of the Ramsay Cascades trail in the Great Smoky Mountains. The water is pulled and pushed against the rocks where large particles of sediment are removed and trace minerals are added. Nature is both beautiful and good

The Smokers

I see many faces in this picture. This is a photo of smoke from an incense cone. The smoke is then lit from different angles using different color gels. The photo is then taken & flipped four times clockwise to produce the entire image. Check out more at hovlandphotography.com under odds and ends.

Code name Scorpion

I woke up and it was still dark. I walked to the bathroom and turned on the light. This guy was right next to my hand. I ran into the bedroom and said "Honey, do you want to sleep or do you want to take pictures of a scorpion?".

Under Dunluce Castle

On the tip of Northern Ireland sits Dunluce Castle. This picture is taken underneath the castle where ships would land with supplies from afar.
