I've stated it many times, The Great Smoky Mountains is our favorite U.S. National Park. This image is an example of why. If you wake up really, really early in the morning and head up Newfoundland Gap Road you can capture the blanketing fog. You should try underexposing up to 2 F-stops because your meter is trying to set your image at middle gray. This causes your images to be to light and you are left with something that doesn't quite pop.
As a side note, both Barry and I have tattoo's that were derived from this image.

Virgin Falls, Sparta, Tennessee

Sparta Tennessee is a little town in the middle of Crossville and Cookeville. It has a gas station, a library and a car dealership. As you drive down Route 127 you will see mobile homes that need some welding done as well as sturdy brick tri levels. This area doesn't appear exceptionally beautiful from the road but when you take a right or a left depending on what you want to see there are beautiful cascading waterfalls and vistas that will knock your sandals off. This is Virgin Falls. It's approximately a 5 mile drive off of 127 and a 5 mile hike in and totally worth it.

Old Timey

I am certain that the price of gasoline has effected many peoples road trips but you can only arrive at this old gas station/post office by way of a car in the deep woods of Tennessee.

A Spring Snow in the Smokies

This April morning was rainy at our little motel in Gatlinburg, TN. It was raining so hard that we almost made plans to be indoors all day. We stopped for breakfast at our favorite sweet potato pancake house and decided to take a drive to an area that we had not been to before. As we were gaining altitude the rain turned to snow by the time we got to the trail marker we were surrounded by these lovely thick, wet flakes. Our entire hike was like being in a magical snowglobe.

Rugby General Store

This post office and general store is located in Historic Rugby Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau. The community here is perserving this Victorian village founded in the 1880's by the British.

Eastern Tennessee Stream

This serene little stream flows to the left of the Ramsay Cascades trail in the Great Smoky Mountains. The water is pulled and pushed against the rocks where large particles of sediment are removed and trace minerals are added. Nature is both beautiful and good
