Blue

I've stated it many times, The Great Smoky Mountains is our favorite U.S. National Park. This image is an example of why. If you wake up really, really early in the morning and head up Newfoundland Gap Road you can capture the blanketing fog. You should try underexposing up to 2 F-stops because your meter is trying to set your image at middle gray. This causes your images to be to light and you are left with something that doesn't quite pop.
As a side note, both Barry and I have tattoo's that were derived from this image.

Lioness in Ruaha

A lioness in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania. I like this picture (taken from the roof of a land rover) because I see a tenderness in her everytime I look at it. Ruaha is one of the least visited National Parks in Tanzania. It is in the Iringa Region.

Oconaluftee

Shot at Oconaluftee Overlook in the Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee USA. The park and surrounding area's have an interesting and disturbing history, including the indian removal act, logging, coal extraction, etc. It is a history worth reading about and in turn learning from.

Yellowstone Mudpot

I like this mudpot because it reminds me of a weird golf course built by nature. This can be found on the Western side of Yellowstone National Park.

Abandoned Train

This train car sits in Rhyolite Ghost town just outside of Death Valley National Park, CA. The colors inside were amazing and the cloudy day intensifies the contrast. We highly recommend Death Valley NP. Go in October when you just might catch some rain.

The Snowy Smokies

The beautiful Smoky Mountains in the winter. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has no entry fee. The donator of the land requested this when the land was handed over to the National Park system. It is the most visited park in the U.S.

Badwater Basin Death Valley

The salt flats are immense in Death Valley and they sit at the lowest point below sea level in the western hemisphere, -200 feet. You can walk for miles and still be walking through honeycomb patterns of salt.

Artist Palette - Death Valley California

It was late in the evening when we arrived at the free campground. After camping in Yosemite, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, etc., my first thought was that this park was ugly. The campgrounds were no more than white dust and tumbleweeds. I was pretty sure that we would only spend a day there. We awoke the next day and went to check out the other campgrounds, certainly the entire park couldn't be this ugly. Then Death Valley opened itself up to me. We found a slightly less ugly campground but after seeing everything that Death Valley had to offer who needs to be at their campsite anyway.

Death Valley is my personal favorite National Park. From the highest point to the lowest point, it is amazing.

Sleeping Giants

Most people will stop traffic for an hour to get a picture of an elk in Yellowstone, all they really have to do is go to the Visitors Center and see them hanging out like it was Elk Lodge chapter 1612. Rangers will put up cones approximately 25 feet around the bull and his harem so that people can still gawk without getting gored. This guy and his gals were enjoying their afternoon nap.

Pronghorn Fight!

Fall is the season for male pronghorn's to gather up their females and try and mate with as many as possible. The male being chased was a newcomer to the group and was trying to woo some females away from the existing harem. As you can see by the tuft of white fur on the antler of the "chaser", he wasn't having it. The fight went on for about 15 minutes and the dominant male chased the lesser male over the hill away from his females. This image was shot in Wind Cave National Park, SD.

Hen Wallow Falls in the Smokies

Hemlock and rhododendron border your walk to Hen Wallow Falls, which is a mere 2.1 mile hike from Cosby campground in the Great Smoky Mountains. This waterfall is 90 feet high. It is a beautiful place.

Ruaha National Park Tanzania

Ruaha National Park in Tanzania is one of the least visited National Park's in the country. It is located in the Southern Highlands, Iringa region. The lack of human traffic makes this one of the best parks to go to. The animals are still weary of safari vehicles and still stand in front of their young when people approach.
